Bhubaneswar, 25 April (H.S.) Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi attended the Odisha State Roundtable at the India Steel 2025, organized by the Ministry of Steel, Government of India, in collaboration with FICCI.
The session held on April 25, 2025, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, showcased Odisha’s steel prowess and future vision under the theme of Samruddha Odisha.
The discussions during the State Roundtable focused on Expanding Steel Production and Raw Material Supply, where the Chief Minister presented Odisha’s strategic strengths in the steel and metals sector to a packed audience of industry leaders.
In his keynote address, he reaffirmed Odisha’s position as the Steel Capital of India and highlighted the State’s role in enabling the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
In his address, the Chief Minister stated that steel is the mother industry of Odisha. Odisha is the largest producer of iron ore in India, playing a pivotal role in the success of the steel sector, accounting for more than 55% of the nation’s iron ore production.
To bolster the development of the steel and allied sectors in Odisha, the Government has undertaken various initiatives, including the establishment of a high-level task force comprising top government officials dedicated to ensuring the smooth commissioning and operation of industries within the state. From securing raw materials and encumbrance-free land to ensuring connectivity through roadways and railways and providing utilities like electricity and water, the state is committed to meeting the specific needs of every industry operating in this vital sector.
Shri Majhi specified that the Government of Odisha is setting its sights on developing a comprehensive metal-based manufacturing value chain, extending from raw materials to high-end engineering products. He announced that Odisha’s Vision 2036 for Industrial Development outlines a bold roadmap that focuses on strengthening both upstream and downstream linkages, promoting engineering goods, mining machinery, transport systems, and components for defense and aerospace.
The event was attended by more than 200 delegates from steel sector industries based in Mumbai. During the roundtable, industry captains from leading firms such as Tata Steel, AMNS, JSW, JSL and SAIL, among others, shared their valuable inputs and growth plans for Odisha. Many other major companies like Kalyani Steel, Shyam Steel, Shree Metaliks, Calderys India, Sarvesh Refractories, etc. represented by their senior officials, also participated in the event and discussed possibilities for industrial growth in the state of Odisha in the coming years.
The session was graced by H.E. Mr. Bobylev Petr, Director, Coal Industry Development, Ministry of Energy, Russian Federation and Mr. Artem Ukolov, Head of Oil and Gas Dept. Russian Trade Commission, followed by a one-on-one meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister to discuss potential collaboration avenues between the two Governments.
As part of the visit, Chief Minister also held strategic engagements with industry stakeholders in other sectors, including:
• Indian Chemical Council (ICC), the premier industry association representing the chemical sector in India. Very senior representatives from leading chemicals companies including Dow Chemicals, Epsilon Carbon, Kothari Petrochemicals, Deepak Fertilizers, etc. discussed their potential investments and expansion plans.
• Indian Drug Manufacturers' Association (IDMA), the leading national organization representing Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers. Representing the association, Shri Bharath Shah, CMD, S Kant Pharmaceuticals discussed the possibilities for development of drug manufacturing sector in the state of Odisha.
The Chief Minister’s visit marks a significant milestone in Odisha’s proactive outreach strategy under the vision of “Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha.”
