New Delhi, April 2 (HS): President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled for State Visits to Portugal and Slovakia from April 7-10, aimed at strengthening India's diplomatic ties with both nations. In Portugal, from April 7-8, she will visit at the invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, marking the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal. This visit is historically significant, as the last State Visit by an Indian President occurred in 1998. President Murmu will engage in discussions with President Sousa, Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, and the National Assembly President, Jose Pedro Aguiar-Branco, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations, including trade and people-to-people exchanges.
On April 9, she will visit Slovakia upon the invitation of President Peter Pellegrini, marking the first visit by an Indian President to Slovakia in nearly thirty years. . This two-day visit underscores India's commitment to fostering stronger relations with Slovakia, paving the way for new initiatives in sectors such as defense, science and technology, and education, while also engaging with the Indian diaspora in both countries.
