Chennai, 2 April (H.S.) : A dawn-to-dusk bandh was observed in Ooty on Wednesday, leaving tourists stranded and commercial establishments shut. The bandh, called by the Nilgiris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was supported by various trade unions, hotel owners, and auto drivers.

Tourists who had obtained e-passes to visit Ooty were also affected, as many commercial establishments, including shops and restaurants, remained closed. Auto drivers also kept off the roads, making it difficult for tourists to commute.

The bandh was called to protest against the e-pass system introduced by the district administration to regulate tourist inflow. Traders and hotel owners claimed that the system was causing hardships to tourists and affecting their business.

Normal life was disrupted in Ooty, with many shops, hotels, and restaurants remaining closed. The bandh also affected the movement of tourists, who were forced to stay indoors or cancel their plans.

Many tourists faced difficulties as most restaurants were closed, with many people thronging the Amma Unavagam near the Ooty bus stand to get their meals

The district administration has assured to review the e-pass system and address the concerns of traders and hotel owners. However, the chamber of commerce has threatened to continue the agitation if their demands are not met.
