Kolkata, 2 April (H.S.): The Kolkata Metro Railway transported 218.1 million passengers during the financial year 2024-25, marking a 13.3% increase compared to 192.5 million passengers in 2023-24.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Kolkata Metro Railway announced that Blue Line (Dakshineswar to New Garia) recorded 189.3 million passengers in 2024-25, up 5.51% from 179.4 million passengers in 2023-24.

The Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan to Esplanade), which started operations in March 2023, saw 13.9 million passengers in 2024-25. Meanwhile, the Green Line-1 (Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector 5) recorded 14.1 million passengers, reflecting a 15.57% rise from 12.2 million passengers in 2023-24.

The Purple Line (Joka to Majerhat) carried 176,000 passengers in 2024-25, an increase of 31.34% from 134,000 passengers in 2023-24. Additionally, the Orange Line (Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay) registered 592,000 passengers during the last fiscal year.

The consistent rise in Kolkata Metro's passenger numbers highlights the growing popularity of metro services as a preferred mode of public transport in the city.
