Guwahati, 02 April (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has issued a circular to finalize the decentralization of the candidate selection process in panchayat elections.

Earlier, the decision of Zilla Parishad candidates was taken by the Pradesh Congress, while the candidates for regional panchayats were selected by the District Congress Committees. According to the new circular, now the final decision of Zilla Parishad candidates will be taken by the District Congress Committees and the candidates for regional panchayats will be selected by the Block Congress Committees.

In this process, full rights have been given to the booth committee, Mandal Committee and senior leaders of the concerned district. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will only send observers to the districts and monitor the matters, while the District Congress Committees will not interfere in the blocks, but will send observers to the blocks.
