Apr (HS): A woman dentist of West Bengal was arrested by the Mumbai police from
West Bengal, in connection with human trafficking. Two children were found with
her, who has been identified as Rashmi Bannerjee. One of the two children is
being treated at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital, while the other one is referred to the
Child Welfare Committee in Kolkata.
According to
Police Inspector Anuradha Bhosale a senior resident of Wadala, had lodged a
complaint in August last year, about his grandson and granddaughter missing.
His son-in-law, Anil Ganesh Purvaiyya and two women from Chembur, Asha Pawar and
Ashma Sheikh, were arrested. During interrogation, they revealed that the
children were sold for Rs 1.80 lakh. The children, however, were not traced.
Based on the information collected, police tried to search a woman in Odisha, but could not
find her. She had shifted to Uttarpara town in Hugli district of West Bengal.
Police immediately moved and arrested Rashmi Bannerjee from her residence. Two
children, reported missing from Wadala, with injuries on their bodies, were also
found. The girl child was handed over to the Child
Welfare Committee in Kolkata, and the boy was admitted to Sion Hospital in
Mumbai.
