Lima, April 18 (HS): Paris Olympic shooter Shriyanka Sadangi finished eighth in the final of the women's 50m rifle 3 position (3P) event on the third day of the ISSF World Cup in rifle/pistol/shotgun. She became the latest Indian shooter to make her mark in a personal World Cup final during this double-leg South American tour, but was eliminated after the 10th shot of the standing position round, which was the 40th shot of the 45-shot final.
In the final, Shriyanka made a good start with a score of 10.5 on her first attempt, but as she progressed towards the finish, she began to lose her momentum. Her best chance came when she reached sixth place with two more shots in the second prone position, but scores of 9.8 and 9.3 effectively ended her challenge. She completed her final shot with a score of 9.9 and was eliminated, tying for seventh place with Brazil's Giovanna Meyer, who scored 400.7 points.
USA's Segen Madalena, who won the silver medal at the Paris Games, secured the gold medal. Segen's effort propelled the USA to the top of the medal table with three golds and six medals overall. By the end of the competition on the third day, India was in second place with two golds, one silver, and one bronze medal.
It was a challenging day overall for Indian shooters, as none of the male competitors reached the 3P final, and they had much to prove after the first round of qualification in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol (RFP) event.
In the women's 3P event, Indian shooters also struggled after the first two kneeling and prone positions, but Shriyanka, Aashi Chouksey, and last World Cup gold medalist Shiftt Kaur Samra gained impressive momentum in the final standing position and raced towards the qualifying mark. Shriyanka managed to secure seventh place with a solid score of 588, Aashi finished ninth
