New Delhi, March 04 (HS): Global markets are showing signs of weakness today. US markets fell prey to a big decline in the last session. However, Dow Jones futures are currently trading with a slight increase today. There was a buying environment in European markets during the last session. On the other hand, Asian markets are showing a weak trend today.
US markets fell prey to a big decline during the last session due to concerns over tariff war. As per Donald Trump's announcement, 25 percent tariff has been imposed on Mexico and Canada in the US from today. Along with this, an additional 10 percent tariff has also been imposed on China from today. On the other hand, Canada has also retaliated by announcing tariffs on US products worth $107 billion.
Due to the tariff war, US markets fell prey to a huge decline during the last session. There was a strong sell-off in tech stocks. Dow Jones closed with a weakness of 650 points. Similarly, the S&P 500 index ended the previous session at 5,849.72 points with a fall of 104.78 points or 1.76 percent. Apart from this, the Nasdaq closed at 18,346.32 points, falling 500.96 points or 2.66 percent. However, the Dow Jones Futures is currently seen trading at 45,248.76 points with a rise of 0.13 percent today.
Unlike the US, the European markets continued to rise during the previous session. The FTSE index closed at 8,871.31 points with a gain of 0.69 percent. Similarly, the CAC index ended the previous session at 8,199.71 points, jumping 1.07 percent. Apart from this, the DAX index jumped 595.59 points or 2.57 percent to close at 23,147.02 points.
There is constant pressure in the Asian markets today. Out of 9 Asian markets, the indices of 7 are trading in the red with weakness, while 2 indices are in the green. The SET Composite Index is trading at 1,193.14 points with a gain of 0.40 percent. Apart from this, the KOSPI index has reached 2,532.94 points with a symbolic increase of 0.01 percent.
On the other hand, GIFT Nifty is trading at 22,168 points with a loss of 0.41 percent. Similarly, the Straits Times Index has slipped 0.39 percent to reach 3,893.68 points. There has been a big decline in the Nikkei index today. Currently, this index has slipped 662.62 points or 1.75 percent to reach the level of 37,122.85 points.
Similarly, the Jakarta Composite Index has slipped 1.23 percent to reach the level of 6,439.79 points. Apart from this, the Hang Seng Index is trading at the level of 22,901.24 points with a weakness of 105.03 points or 0.46 percent, the Taiwan Weighted Index has fallen 0.37 percent to the level of 22,671.07 points and the Shanghai Composite Index is trading at the level of 3,316.67 points with a symbolic decline of 0.01 percent.
