Miami, March 25 (H.S.): China's Zheng Qinwen has secured a spot in the semifinals of the Miami Open. The ninth-seeded Zheng defeated America’s Ashlyn Kruger 6-2, 7-6(3) in the quarterfinal match held on Monday.
Zheng performed brilliantly, hitting five aces and winning 81% of her first serve points. She completed the match in 1 hour and 29 minutes.
On the other hand, Kruger struggled to find her rhythm on serve, committing four double faults and winning only 27% of her return points.
In the semifinals, Zheng will face the top seed and world number 1 player Aryna Sabalenka. Sabalenka advanced to the last four by defeating reigning champion Danielle Collins 6-4, 6-4 in her quarterfinal match.
Notably, Olympic women’s singles champion Zheng is seeking her sixth title of her career.
