Delhi, 18 March (H.S.): The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the National Book Trust (NBT) of India launched YUVA 3.0 on March 11, 2025, building on previous iterations to nurture writers under 30. This initiative encourages literary talent and reading culture aligned with the Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat vision, focusing on themes like the Indian Diaspora, Indian Knowledge System, and Modern India (1950-2025).
Applications are accepted through MyGov India, with 50 selected authors undergoing six months of mentorship, workshops, and a ₹50,000 monthly stipend. Their works will be published by NBT in various languages, and they will engage in literary festivals. YUVA 3.0 is consistent with the National Education Policy 2020, prioritizing young talent for leadership and nation-building.
Previously, YUVA 2.0, launched in October 2022, centered on 'Democracy,' fostering a new generation of writers to explore democratic values, with 75 authors selected through a competitive process benefiting from mentorship by experts and training in storytelling.
In February 2025, the Union Minister for Education launched 41 new multilingual books at the New Delhi World Book Fair, targeting diverse audiences and celebrating young authors. The YUVA 1.0 initiative, commenced in May 2021 for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, empowered youth by encouraging submissions of 5000-word manuscripts.
A committee from the National Book Trust (NBT) selected 75 authors from diverse backgrounds, providing mentorship in writing, editing, and publishing, with sessions led by notable figures in literature.
Each author received a scholarship of Rs.50,000 monthly for six months. Announced on December 25, 2021, the YUVA 1.0 books were translated into various Indian languages, enhancing accessibility and promoting the documentation of historical narratives. This initiative has significantly contributed to the visibility of young authors, helping them enter mainstream literature and academic discourse, while some built successful independent publishing careers. By securing 10% royalties on published works, YUVA has been instrumental in nurturing literary talent and fostering a culture of reading in India.
