Imphal, 17 March (HS): Manipur Police and other security forces are carrying out an intensive operation in Manipur. During this, a search operation was conducted in sensitive areas of hill and valley districts, in which a huge quantity of weapons and other objectionable material was recovered.

Police said on Monday that the material recovered from Loitang Sandum Hill Range of Sekmai police station area, Imphal West district, includes an SLR rifle and a magazine, a pistol (with damaged magazine), two No. 36 HE hand grenades (without detonator), and two Baofeng handheld radio sets.

During another search operation, more weapons were recovered from the hills and Uyok forest, on the eastern side of IVR in Nambol police station area of Bishnupur district. These include one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, two 9 mm carbine machine guns, one .303 modified sniper rifle (with magnifier scope), one SBBL gun, one pistol, four No. 36 hand grenades, three 12 bore live cartridges, one 9 mm CMG empty magazine, two tear gas grenades, four anti-riot rubber bullets, one tear smoke shell CS, one tube launching 1A (for No. 36 grenade), four live HD cartridges (used in grenade launching) and two wood piercing shells.

The police have started further investigation into these recoveries.-------------
