Hyderabad, March 15 (HS): The Telangana government has completed its work on caste demographics and formed an 11-member expert committee to study the caste census, which includes French economist Thomas Piketty for analysis. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accuses the Congress government of compromising sensitive social data by involving foreign entities.
BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narasimha Rao condemned Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's decision, raising concerns about potential misrepresentation of India’s social fabric by an outsider. He characterized the Congress party as consistently antagonistic towards Indian values and institutions, questioning the rationale behind entrusting sensitive data to a foreign national.
Similarly, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi interrogated Congress on Piketty's selection, pointing out debates surrounding his economic inequality model, which advocates higher taxation on the wealthy. He highlighted Congress's historical connections with foreign entities that allegedly undermine national interests, particularly during election times and parliamentary sessions.
