Chandigarh, March 14 (HS): In a tragic incident at a checkpoint on the Chandigarh-Zirakpur border, three individuals, including two police personnel, lost their lives.
The accident occurred this morning when a Baleno car was stopped for checking due to Holi celebrations. Constable Sukhdarshan and Home Guard volunteer Rajesh were inspecting the vehicle when a speeding Polo car collided with them. In the chaos, the driver, who was present with the police, struck the three officers, throwing them onto barbed wire set up for security. Their bodies were severely mutilated, with limbs severed.The accused driver fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle.
Police began reviewing CCTV footage and identified the driver, Govind from Hallomajra, Chandigarh. Reports indicate he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
The deceased include Constable Sukhdarshan, volunteer Rajesh, and Samarth Dua, a student at Punjab University.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. A case has been registered against the accused.
