Agartala, 12 March (HS): Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Customs /Department, has seized 5,500 bottles of banned Phensidyl cough syrup from the forest of Kalachhara area in Agartala, Tripura. The estimated price of the seized consignment in the international market is said to be around ₹99 lakh.

A statement issued by Assam Rifles said that this action was taken as part of a major campaign aimed at preventing cross-border smuggling. Security forces conducted a search operation in the area based on secret information and recovered a huge consignment of banned syrup. In view of the increasing cases of such smuggling in recent times, Assam Rifles and Customs Department have increased surveillance.
