Ayodhya,
08 Feb (H.S.): The BJP's Chandrabhanu Paswan leads Ajit Prasad of the SP by 10177
votes in the early rounds of the Milkipur assembly byelection. This by-election
was called after Awadhesh Prasad of the SP vacated the seat to run for the Lok
Sabha. The BJP seeks to recoup lost ground in Ayodhya.
Three
rounds of counting of votes for Milkipur by-election have been completed.
Counting is being done at Government Inter College on Saturday amid tight
security. BJP candidate Chandrabhanu Paswan is leading by 10177 votes. In three
rounds of counting, SP candidate Ajit Prasad got a total of 9965 votes and
Chandrabhan Paswan from BJP got a total of 21600 votes.
The
by-election was called when SP leader Awadhesh Prasad abandoned the seat
following his election to the Lok Sabha from Faizabad last year. This is a
vital struggle for both parties.
For
the BJP, winning in Milkipur is considered as an opportunity to counterattack
after losing the Faizabad seat in the 2022 elections, the only one lost in
Ayodhya district. Notably, BSP is not contesting, while Congress supports its
allies SP.
Counting
of votes is going on in the verandah of Government Inter College. Counting of
votes has started at 8:00 am. 14 tables have been set up for counting of votes.
Counting of votes will be completed in 30 rounds.
19
parties of 76 employees have been deployed for counting of votes and four
parties are reserved for counting. One supervisor, one micro supervisor, one
assistant counter and one fourth class employee have also been deployed.
Counting trends have started coming and the result can come by 3:00 pm.
