Kolkata, 8 February (H.S.) : RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat met the parents of the deceased R G Kar Medical College junior doctor, who was raped and murdered in August last year, during his visit to West Bengal. The meeting took place at a guest house in Rajarhat, near Kolkata, where Bhagwat is staying.
After listening to the heart-wrenching ordeal of the parents, Bhagwat expressed deep shock and extended his solidarity with the grieving family. He assured them of full support in their fight for justice, emphasizing that this is the need of the hour.
The meeting was arranged after the mother of the deceased medic requested an audience with Bhagwat upon learning about his Kolkata visit.
A Kolkata court recently sentenced Sanjay Roy, the sole convict in the case, to life imprisonment till death. However, the parents have been seeking stricter action and continued legal support.
In his earlier public statement on the case, Bhagwat had asserted that it was the responsibility of the state government to ensure the harshest punishment for those involved.
The family had previously tried to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Bengal in October last year, but the meeting could not materialize. They had also approached Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and BJP spokesperson Sajal Ghosh multiple times regarding the case.
Bhagwat, who arrived in Bengal from Kerala on Thursday, is holding a series of meetings with RSS functionaries from South Bengal, covering districts like Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, and Medinipur. His sessions will continue till February 10, followed by a brainstorming session on February 11-12.
On February 13, Bhagwat will head to Middle Bengal, covering Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, Bardhaman, and Nadia, before attending an RSS conference in Bardhaman on February 16.
