Tamil Nadu, 7 February (H.S.): Opposition MPs from Tamil Nadu protest on Parliament premises demanding to bring back Indian fishermen caught by Sri Lankan forces. DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi demanded that the Union govt hold “urgent” talks with Sri Lanka to find a permanent solution to the issue.

Over 97 fishermen had been arrested and lodged in prisons in Sri Lanka and nearly 210 fishing boats were nationalised by the Sri Lankan government posing a serious threat to the livelihood of the fishermen.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had repeatedly insisted the Centre to hold talks with the Sri Lankan government to find a permanent solution, she said urged the Union Government to take immediate steps to bring back the arrested fishermen.

Kanimozhi urged the Union Government to take immediate steps to bring back the arrested fishermen and their boats. She also demanded that the Centre hold urgent talks with the Sri Lankan government to find a permanent solution to the issue.

The protest was attended by MPs from the DMK and its allies, who displayed placards with messages such as No more arrests, Justice for Tamil fishermen, and Bring back our fishermen.

The DMK and its allies will continue to raise their voices against the injustice faced by Tamil Nadu fishermen and demand a permanent solution to the issue.
