Darjeeling BJP MLA Writes to Amit Shah, Demands Tripartite Meeting for Political Solution

Kolkata, 7 February (H.S.): BJP MLA from Darjeeling has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to convene a tripartite meeting to find a permanent political solution for the region.

Neeraj Tamang Zimba, the BJP legislator from Darjeeling Assembly constituency, expressed concern in his letter sent late Thursday evening. He pointed out that BJP MP from Darjeeling, Raju Bista, had assured in January 2025 that a tripartite meeting would be held. However, no further developments have taken place regarding this promise.

January has passed, and February has begun, yet the Ministry of Home Affairs remains silent on this crucial issue. This silence is causing anxiety and discomfort among the people, who are awaiting justice, resolution, and a decisive outcome, Zimba wrote in his letter.

He further emphasized that political dialogue is the essence of democracy, and the Gorkha community had pinned their hopes on this process. Delays in fulfilling this promise and the reluctance to act upon it not only undermine the democratic rights of Indian Gorkhas but also raise questions about the sincerity of the BJP-led central government in addressing this matter within the constitutional framework, he stated.

Zimba's letter reiterates the long-standing demand for a political resolution in the Darjeeling hills, bringing the focus back to the pending commitment of a tripartite dialogue involving the Centre, the West Bengal government, and Gorkha representatives.
