Howrah, 6 February (H.S.): Casual employees of Bally Municipality in Howrah district, especially the contract sanitation workers, protested at the dumping ground over their salary payment. The employees claimed that the contractor has changed their work rules, including not giving PF and salary being deducted for taking leave.
There are about 170 of these employees work under two contractors. Earlier they used to get PF and other benefits, but on February 1, new rules were implemented by issuing a notice, which includes the rule of 'no work no pay'. Under this, the employees said that they are not getting any leave or other benefits. They want the benefits of the old agreement back.
Due to the protest, cleaning and other civic services are being disrupted in the Bally Municipality area. According to the sources of the municipality, all measures are being taken for cleaning. Only the municipality vehicles are allowed to dump garbage at the dumping ground, due to which the cleaning system has been affected. As a result, garbage is accumulating on the streets and foul smell is spreading.
