Kolkata, 5 February (H.S.): The bullet-riddled body of a police officer was found in the Bankshall City Civil Court premises in Kolkata's BBD Bagh area on Wednesday morning. The deceased police officer has been identified as Gopal Nath, a resident of Malda district and was in charge of the security of a judge. His service revolver was found lying at some distance from the body. Initial investigations suggest that he may have committed suicide with his service revolver. However, the police are also investigating whether there is any other reason or conspiracy behind the incident.

The incident took place in the morning when court activities had not started and there were very few people in the area. Locals heard a loud sound and called the security guards. The police took the body into custody and sent it to Calcutta Medical College for post-mortem.

Gopal Nath's revolver was found at some distance from his body. This is not being considered normal. Therefore, the police have decided to deepen the investigation, in which the help of sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts is being taken.

Till the time of filing of the news, no eyewitness of this incident was found.
