Chengalpattu, 5 February (H.S.): A group of burglars broke into a government-run TASMAC liquor shop in Keelavalam village near Madurantakam, stealing liquor bottles worth approximately Rs 50,000.
The burglars drilled a hole in the rear wall of the shop to gain entry, but their escape was thwarted by a police patrol team who noticed three individuals fleeing the scene around 1:30 am. The police immediately alerted the local police station and the TASMAC shop manager.
Upon inspection, shop staff discovered that high-value liquor bottles had been stolen, although not as many as initially feared. The police suspect that the burglars were interrupted during the theft, prompting their hasty escape. A similar burglary occurred at the same shop two years ago.
The police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
