West Bengal, 4 February (H.S.): A 65-year-old tribal woman was allegedly raped in Gosaba area of South 24 Parganas district, following which she died. The main accused in the incident has been arrested.

According to police sources, the accused youth went to the victim's house with liquor on Monday night and forcibly made the woman drink alcohol. No one was in the house at that time except the woman's daughter-in-law. The daughter-in-law said that she asked the youth to leave, but he did not go. When she went to call the neighbors, the accused was in the house.

On returning, the daughter-in-law found her mother-in-law lying naked in the kitchen, and her husband was drunk. The elderly woman was first rushed to the Gosaba Block Rural Hospital, and later sent to the Canning Subdivision Hospital when her condition deteriorated, where she died.

After the incident, the villagers beat up the accused youth and handed him over to the police. The police have arrested him and initiated an investigation into the matter. The body of the elderly woman was sent for post-mortem on Tuesday, and the police are investigating whether she was raped.

This incident has created tension in the area.
