Imphal, 27 February (HS): People from various districts in Manipur voluntarily handed over a total of 104 different types of weapons, ammunition and other military materials to the police. It is known that after the appeal of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the process of surrendering weapons is continuing. Police said on Thursday that these surrenders were made at various places in Kangpokpi, Imphal East, Vishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal West and Kakching districts.

In Kangpokpi District, Various arms were surrendered at SP Office, Kangpokpi which included six locally made SBBL guns, two SLRs, one INSAS rifle, one .22 rifle (without magazine), 30 live 7.62 mm rounds, 29 SBBL live rounds, two locally made mortar rockets, one locally made cannon cartridge, one binoculars, one Baofeng set, seven locally made hand grenades, one Chinese hand grenade, five locally made mortars, one locally made rocket launcher and six bullet proof jackets.

At Lamlai Police Station premises in Imphal East District, One SMG carbine (with one empty magazine), one locally made 9 mm pistol (without magazine), two hand grenades, three WP grenades, seven tear smoke shells, five stunt shells, one explosive motor bomb shell, three rubber bullet shells, one sniper rifle (without magazine), six .303 cartridges and 31 .303 empty cartridges were surrendered.

Apart from these, two INSAS rifles, one Enfield .303 rifle and one BP helmet were surrendered at Porompat police station premises.

At the same time, one CMG carbine (with 2 empty magazines), one SBBL gun, one country-made pistol (without magazine), one locally manufactured carbine (without magazine) and seven misfired 5.56 mm ammunition were surrendered at Sagolmung police station premises.

This large-scale surrender of weapons is being considered an important step in the efforts to restore law and order.
