Chennai, 26 February (H.S.) : The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Chennai Corporation to submit a detailed proposal to tackle the persistent pollution and garbage dumping in the Buckingham Canal.

The NGT's directive emphasizes the need for urgent measures to restore the canal's water quality, which has been severely compromised due to rampant pollution. The proposal is expected to outline a comprehensive plan to prevent further pollution, restore the canal's ecosystem, and ensure its proper maintenance.

The Chennai Corporation has been instructed to submit the proposal within a stipulated timeframe, following which the NGT will review and provide further directions to ensure effective implementation of the pollution mitigation measures.
