Guwahati, 26 February (HS): Mahashivratri Puja celebrations are in full swing across the state. There has been a rush of devotees since morning at the Bhimashankar Jyotirling Mahadev temple in Pamohi, Guwahati. Devotees from far-flung areas of the state have arrived to worship Bhimashankar Mahadev, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Preparations for the puja were going on here for the past several days. Along with this, Mahashivratri festival is being celebrated in almost all the small and big Shiva temples of the state.

According to reports from Sivasagar, Mahashivratri festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious customs in Sivasagar along with the entire state. Thousands of devotees stood in long queues since morning and offered prayers at the historic Shivdoul.

This festival will be celebrated for four days in the historic Shivdoul of Sivasagar, which started on Tuesday. This morning, Gaurav Gogoi, MP from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, also offered prayers at Shivdoul.

The local administration has made all arrangements for smooth administration and security during the festival, creating a festive atmosphere in the city. As part of the program, several religious and cultural programs are being organized during these days.

It is worth mentioning that Maha Shivratri is an important festival for Hindus. On this special day, devotees observe fast, worship Shiva and pray for peace, prosperity and well-being of themselves as well as the country and society.

Like previous years, this time too a big fair has been organized along with the festival, in which many business institutions from local and outside states have participated. The festival will end on February 28. On this occasion, the Sivasagar district administration has declared February 27 as a local holiday.

On the occasion of Mahashivratri 2025, it is important for devotees to know about the puja method, auspicious time and rules of fasting. This year, the festival of Mahashivratri is being celebrated on 26 February. According to the Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi will start on 26 February at 11:08 am and will end on 27 February at 8:54 am. On this special day, worship of Lord Shiva, Rudrabhishek and fasting have special significance. On Mahashivratri, worship is organized in four PRAHARS of the night, in which every PRAHAR has a special worship method. Nishita Kaal Puja Muhurta will be from 12:27 am to 1:16 am on 27 February.

On the day of Mahashivratri, devotees chant the mantra 'Om Namah Shivaya' and recite the Shiva Purana by staying awake at night. It is believed that fasting and worshiping Lord Shiva on this day gives special results and all the troubles of the devotees are removed. This festival not only spreads spiritual consciousness, but also gives the message of unity and harmony in the society.
