Guwahati, 25 February (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is committed to ensuring efficient and safer rail travel. By constantly adopting advanced technology, NFR strives to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure. To further enhance efficiency and safety, several upgradations and replacements have been carried out in signalling systems and other safety equipment in several sections under the zone.

NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Tuesday that in the month of January of the current year, NFR installed thick web switch point machines with clamp-type locking at two locations in Alipurduar and Rangia divisions. NFR replaced 20 point machines in Katihar and 11 point machines in Alipurduar division, resulting in improved infrastructure to reduce the chances of derailment and ensure safe passenger and freight transport. In addition, electric lifting barrier replacement has been carried out at five level crossings of Katihar, Lumding, Rangiya and Tinsukia divisions to enhance safety at level crossings.

In Rangiya, Lumding and Alipurduar divisions, 17.712 km of new signalling cables have been laid at several stations. As a part of safety measures to safeguard railway assets, Automatic Fire Detection & Alarm System has been commissioned at seven stations. System Integrity Testing has been carried out at 19 level crossings at various locations of Alipurduar, Rangiya and Lumding divisions of NFR. A total of 388 signalling batteries of various capacities have been replaced in four divisions of NFR, thereby enhancing reliability of safety devices. Advanced communication systems provide real-time visual information to both driver and operator, thereby improving operational efficiency, ensuring timely decision making and boosting overall safety of railways.

Upgradation of infrastructure of the railway system plays a vital role in ensuring safe rail operations. Reliability and maintenance of the installed infrastructure directly impacts the efficiency and capacity of railway operations.
