New Delhi, 25 February (HS): Rouse Avenue Court has granted anticipatory bail to Aam Aadmi Party's Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan in the new FIR registered for allegedly leading the attack on the police team in Jamia Nagar. Special Judge Jitendra Singh ordered Amanatullah Khan to cooperate in the investigation.
The court had issued a notice to Delhi Police on February 13. During the hearing, Delhi Police opposed Amanatullah Khan's anticipatory bail plea and presented CCTV footage of the incident before the court.
In fact, Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Amanatullah Khan on February 11 for leading the attack on the police team in Jamia Nagar. According to the police, Amanatullah Khan is accused of helping fugitive Shabaz Khan escape from police custody in an attempt to murder case. According to Delhi Police, the Crime Branch team tried to arrest Shabaz Khan but Shabaz fled from the spot as Amanatullah Khan's supporters clashed with the police team.
The case filed by CBI and ED against Amanatullah Khan in the case of irregularities in recruitment in Delhi Waqf Board is being heard in Rouse Avenue Court.
ED arrested Amanatullah Khan on 2 September 2024. According to ED, Amanatullah Khan is the main accused in the irregularities in the recruitment of Delhi Waqf Board. On March 1, 2023, the Sessions Court of Rouse Avenue Court acquitted Amanatullah Khan in the case of obstructing the anti-encroachment campaign of the Municipal Corporation in Madanpur Khadar area of South Delhi.
