Guwahati, 24 February (HS): Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has dismissed allegations linking him to Pakistan’s ISI, calling them baseless and politically motivated. He accused the BJP of relying on falsehoods to mislead the public.
BJP stands on two crutches—lies and misinformation. Their job is to spread propaganda, while ours is to ensure people know the truth, Gogoi said, rejecting the accusations against him and his wife.
The controversy has flared amid the election season, with the Congress leader alleging that such claims are meant to divert attention from key issues.
Meanwhile, Assam Police’s CID has launched an investigation into Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh over alleged foreign interference. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Sheikh had ties with Elizabeth Gogoi, Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, who worked in Pakistan with 'Lead Pakistan' on climate change initiatives. Sheikh’s reported connections to Pakistani officials have raised concerns.
With political tensions rising, the BJP is yet to respond officially to Gogoi’s remarks.
