Guwahati, 21 February (HS): Congress and opposition MLAs on Friday protested in the Assam Assembly premises against the attack on Congress MP Rokibul Hussain. Before the proceedings of the fourth day of the budget session of the Assembly began, Congress members gathered outside the assembly chamber with play cards in their hands and shouting slogans.

It is worth mentioning that Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced to provide additional security to Congress MP Rokibul Hussain after he was attacked in his own area on Thursday. The Chief Minister said that due to the increase in incidents of attack on him in his home area in recent days, it has been decided that whenever Rokibul goes to Samaguri, he will be given additional security.

At the same time, Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh also reacted to the incident and said that the matter is being investigated. He said that two PSOs (security officers) of Rokibul Hussain had suffered minor injuries. DGP assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits.
