New Delhi, February 20 (HS): The National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has achieved unprecedented success in the Northeast region. Under this, a significant increase has been registered in consumer complaint registration and resolution in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said in a statement issued on Thursday that the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) has achieved unprecedented success in the Northeast region, with a significant increase in consumer complaint registration and resolution in Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as the best performer among the states of the Northeast region.
The ministry said, Arunachal Pradesh has emerged as a best performing state among the states of the Northeast region. With 318 complaints in 2020, the state witnessed a rapid increase in the number of consumers reaching NCH through various channels, leading to 15,860 consumer complaints being registered in 2024. Arunachal's progress demonstrates growing consumer awareness and trust in the NCH platform, driven by innovative outreach initiatives and technological measures.
According to the ministry, this success reflects the collective result of various initiatives taken by the department to promote consumer awareness and provide an effective grievance redressal system in one of the most geographically challenged regions of the country. The northeastern states have traditionally faced barriers to accessing the consumer grievance redressal system due to their unique demographics and socio-economic challenges.
The Ministry of Consumer, Food and Public Distribution said that the concerted efforts of NCH in these states have led to an impressive 300 per cent increase in the number of complaints, from 9162 complaints in 2020 to 36,609 complaints in 2024. Arunachal Pradesh in particular has seen a significant increase in this movement, with a significant portion of complaints relating to issues related to sectors such as e-commerce, telecom services, digital payments and defective goods and services.
