New Delhi, February 20 (HS): The second phase of the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS) pilot phase has been launched. Applications are being invited once again for this. In the second phase, more than one lakh internship opportunities will be provided in top companies located in more than 730 districts of the country.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) said in a statement issued on Thursday that the second phase of the pilot phase for the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme (PMIS) has started. The ministry said that after receiving more than 6 lakh applications in the first phase, more than 1 lakh internship opportunities will be provided in top companies in more than 730 districts of the country in the second phase.
More than 70 IEC programs are being organized across the country for the second phase of PMIS. This includes districts with maximum internship opportunities, universities, colleges and ITI, employment fairs etc., based on the eligibility required for these internships. Apart from this, national level digital campaigns are being run through several platforms and influencers based on aggregation of opportunities and relevance to the youth. The ministry said that more than 300 top companies from oil, gas and energy; banking and financial services, travel and hospitality, automotive, metals and mining manufacturing and industrial, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and many other sectors have provided internship opportunities to Indian youth to gain practical experience, network with professionals and increase their employability.
The Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana, led by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been designed to harness the potential of India's young population by providing them 12 months of paid internship in India's top companies. The scheme targets individuals in the age group of 21 to 24 years, who are not currently engaged in any full-time educational program or employment. The scheme provides them a unique opportunity to start their career.
Under this scheme, each intern will be given a monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000. Apart from this, a one-time financial assistance of Rs 6,000 will also be given. Each internship will be a combination of relevant training and professional experience (at least six months), to ensure that the candidates learn and apply their skills in practical situations as well.
