New Delhi, 20 February (HS): The Central Government has extended the tenure of the country's Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V. Anantha Nageshwaran for two years. Nageshwaran's tenure has been extended till March 2027.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the extension of V. Anantha Nageshwaran's tenure till March 31, 2027. CEA Nageshwaran took over as Chief Economic Advisor on January 28, 2022. Prior to this, V. Anantha Nageshwaran has also worked as a writer, teacher and consultant. He has also been a temporary member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council from 2019 to 2021. The office of the CEA looks after advising the government on various economic policies and preparing the draft of the Economic Review to be presented in Parliament a day before the Union Budget.

V. Anantha Nageswaran's tenure extension comes a few weeks after the Economic Survey 2024-25 projected a growth of 6.3-6.8 per cent for the next fiscal year. According to the government's advance estimates, the country's economy is expected to grow at 6.4 per cent in the current financial year 2024-25.
