Dhaka, February 14 (HS): Bangladesh Interim Government Chief Prof. Mohammad Yunus discussed communication resources in a virtual meeting with Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk and his team. Chief Advisor Prof. Yunus wants Musk to start Starlink satellite internet service in Bangladesh.
According to The Daily Star newspaper, the details of this meeting have been released in the press wing release of the Chief Advisor. According to the release, the SpaceX founder and chief advisor talked about the potential transformative impact of Starlink's satellite communications, especially for Bangladesh's entrepreneurial youth, rural and vulnerable women and remote communities. The meeting was attended by Bangladesh's representative on the Rohingya crisis Khalilur Rahman, SDG lead coordinator Lamia Morshed along with SpaceX Vice President Lauren Dreyer and Global Engagement Advisor Richard Griffiths.
Prof Yunus and Musk discussed how high-speed, low-cost internet connectivity can bridge the digital divide in Bangladesh. Can strengthen education, healthcare and economic development in disadvantaged areas and provide access to millions of small and micro entrepreneurs beyond the national border. Prof. Yunus said that integrating Starlink's connectivity into Bangladesh's infrastructure will create new opportunities for millions of people and integrate the country more closely into the global digital economy.
Chief Advisor Yunus said that Starlink's arrival in Bangladesh will expand the initiatives of Grameen Bank and Grameenphone to connect rural women and youth to the world. The Tesla founder expressed confidence that innovation, economic empowerment and financial inclusion can be furthered in Bangladesh by leveraging technological advancements like Starlink. Prof. Yunus invited Musk to visit Bangladesh as soon as possible.
