New Delhi, 8 December (H.S.): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined the Indian cricket team 10% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate during the second ODI against South Africa, played in Raipur on December 3.

According to an ICC release, Emirates ICC Elite Panel match referee Ritchie Richardson imposed the sanction after KL Rahul’s side was found two overs short of the target, even after considering time allowances.

Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over their side fails to bowl within the stipulated time. Since India were two overs behind, the total fine amounted to 10% of the match fee.Indian captain KL Rahul accepted the sanction and the accompanying penalty, thus avoiding a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Sam Nogajski, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal.The match in Raipur marked India’s second ODI in the three-match series against South Africa, with the series drawing significant attention ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
