Dasmantpur IIC Nabbed by Odisha Vigilance While Taking ₹20,000 Bribe

Bhubaneswar, 18 December (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended Smt. Sukma Hansdah, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 to submit a case diary in court.

Vigilance officials said the trap was conducted on December 18, 2025, after a complaint was lodged by a relative of an accused person. The complainant alleged that the IIC, who was the Investigating Officer in a previously registered case, demanded the bribe in lieu of submitting the Case Diary before the court, which had sought the document while the accused was in judicial custody. Submission of the case diary was required to facilitate consideration of bail.

Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Smt. Hansdah red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. The entire tainted cash of ₹20,000 was recovered from her possession and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 39/2025 has been registered against Smt. Hansdah under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is currently underway, Vigilance officials added.
