Police Make Major Breakthrough In Tamluk Jewellery Heist, Two Key Accused Arrested From Uttar Pradesh

Kolkata, 18 December (H.S.): Police have made a significant breakthrough in the sensational jewellery shop robbery that took place at Milan Nagar in Tamluk under Purba Medinipur district. Addressing an official press conference late Wednesday evening, senior police officers shared detailed information about the case, confirming that two main accused were arrested from Uttar Pradesh along with firearms.

According to the police, the robbery occurred on Sept 22 when miscreants, with their faces covered in black cloth, stormed into a jewellery shop in the Milan Nagar area. To create panic, the accused fired shots in the air and fled with a large quantity of gold ornaments. The incident triggered widespread panic across the district.

During the course of the investigation, police had earlier arrested two local associates, Bappaditya Bag and Dilip Maity. Based on their interrogation and analysis of nearly 171 CCTV camera footages, investigators unearthed links to an inter-state criminal gang. Acting on these leads, police conducted raids in Uttar Pradesh and successfully apprehended two prime accused involved in the robbery.

Police officials revealed that a modern 9 mm pistol, three magazines and 10 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused. So far, around 160 grams of looted gold have also been recovered. One of the accused has been taken on police remand for further interrogation, and officials believe more crucial information may emerge.

The police stated that the recovered gold will be identified through a test identification parade and subsequently handed over to the rightful owner. Officials asserted that this operation has dealt a major blow to the inter-state gang involved in targeting jewellery shops. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are continuing to trace and arrest other accused linked to the case.
