Nagaon (Assam), 18 December (HS): The district administration continued its encroachment eviction drive for the third consecutive day in the Dhing constituency of Assam’s Nagaon district on Thursday. Acting on identified locations, administrative teams carried out fresh operations to remove illegal occupations from government land.

District Commissioner Devashish Sharma stated that the anti-encroachment drive will continue till December 20. He said elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure that the operation is conducted in a peaceful manner. Several JCBs and other heavy machinery have been deployed to carry out the eviction process efficiently.

The ongoing drive has received a positive response from sections of the local population. Many residents expressed satisfaction over the administration’s action and extended gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for initiating steps to free government land from encroachment. They said the move would facilitate development activities in the area.

However, some locals pointed out that proper scientific methods must be adopted while filling up ponds in the area, stating that only such measures can provide a long-term solution to the persistent problem of waterlogging in the region.----------
