Goalpara, 17 December (HS): Man–elephant conflict took a frightening turn in Assam’s Goalpara district after a large herd of elephants went on a rampage in a residential area near Dudhnoi. The incident occurred at Tangabari village, where the elephants caused widespread destruction late at night.
According to local sources, a herd of around 30 to 40 elephants entered the village and damaged several houses, breaking doors, walls and household belongings. The sudden intrusion triggered panic among residents, forcing families to flee or hide to save their lives.
Victims said that some family members narrowly escaped death by hiding under beds inside their homes as the elephants moved through the area. Though no loss of life has been reported so far, the incident has left many families traumatized and homeless.
The recurring incidents of man–elephant conflict in the region have once again raised serious concerns over wildlife management and the safety of people living in fringe areas. Residents have urged the forest department to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents and ensure protection for affected villages.----------
