Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Scheme Expands, Beneficiary Count Reaches 1.31 Crore

Chennai, 12 December (H.S.) : The number of women receiving the monthly assistance under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme has increased significantly, with an additional 17 lakh women now included. This expansion brings the total number of beneficiaries for the ₹1,000 monthly scheme to 1.31 crore.

The inclusion of these new beneficiaries follows a detailed scrutiny of approximately 28 lakh application forms received by the government, primarily through the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps. Previously, 1.14 crore women were already receiving the financial aid.

According to government officials, the state has already spent a total of ₹30,838.45 crore on the KMUT scheme since its launch in the 2023–24 financial year. The government also issued a statement providing details on other welfare schemes dedicated to women, such as the Puthumai Penn and Vidiyal Bus Schemes.
