LONDON, 16 November (H.S.): Chris Eubank Jr.'s boxing future is in question after a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Conor Benn in their highly anticipated rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, which prompted calls from prominent boxing figures for the 36-year-old to retire.
Benn avenged his defeat from seven months prior with a dominant performance, controlling the fight from the outset.Following the bout, former world champions Carl Frampton and Barry Jones both suggested it might be the end of the road for Eubank Jr .
It was a great performance from Conor, but this might be the time to call it a day for Chris, Frampton told DAZN, a sentiment echoed by Jones, who noted Eubank appeared flat and that the cause was likely wear and tear rather than issues with making weight.
However, other boxing personalities, including lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson and legendary promoter Oscar De La Hoya, attributed Eubank's lackluster performance to being weight drained.
A rehydration clause limited the amount of weight Eubank could regain after the weigh-in, which they argued left him depleted.Former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew stopped short of calling for retirement but described Benn's victory as as convincing and one-sided a win as you'll ever see, stating that Eubank was out-jabbed, outworked and bullied throughout the contest.
Despite rapper 50 Cent's call for a trilogy fight, Benn declared the rivalry over, having emphatically settled the score in a bout that saw him knock Eubank down twice in the final round to seal the victory.
