Delhi, 13 November (H.S.): Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh, stated on Thursday that India is prepared to share its experience and expertise with Maldivian officials for capacity building in areas like public policy, the blue economy, ocean technology, startup policy, and infrastructure development.
India's robust civil service system serves as an excellent example of coordination among various ministries, departments, and public entities, leading to significant progress in good governance and administrative reforms.
Dr. Singh made these remarks while interacting with a 30-member delegation from the Maldives at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG). The delegation, led by Ahmed Saleem, the Maldivian Minister of State for Municipal, Local Government and Public Works, is attending a capacity-building training program on the Smart City Mission at the NCGG in Mussoorie from November 3 to 14.
Dr. Singh affirmed that India is also ready to design need-based training programs for Maldivian officials. He encouraged the delegation to learn from India's development initiatives, particularly the Prime Minister Gati Shakti Mission and women's empowerment schemes.
He expressed confidence that this India-Maldives collaboration will further strengthen the relationship between the two nations and establish a new direction for good governance through shared knowledge and experience.Surendra Kumar Bagde, Director General of the NCGG, noted that the institution conducts sectoral and specially designed training programs for officials from many countries, including the Maldives, to help them effectively implement development programs in their own nations.
Expressing gratitude to the Government of India, Maldivian Minister of State Ahmed Saleem described the program as a unique learning opportunity. He praised India's Smart City Mission as an inspiring model of sustainable urban development, combining technology, good governance, and citizen participation.
Notably, since the renewal of an agreement in August 2024, the National Centre for Good Governance has trained 1,206 civil servants from the Maldives, including permanent secretaries, secretaries-general, and other high-level representatives.
