Chennai, 9 October (H.S.) : In a significant breakthrough, the Erode district police in Tamil Nadu have seized 400 kg of sandalwood logs valued at Rs 50 lakh.

The police intercepted a goods van registered in Kerala during a routine vehicle check at Kemma Naicken Palayam, where they discovered the contraband hidden among vegetables.

Two individuals, identified as Zynul Abudeen and Abdul Razak, were arrested on the scene and reportedly confessed to smuggling the logs from Thooka Naicken Palayam to Kerala.

The authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to identify potential accomplices and other links in the smuggling operation. The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to curb timber smuggling in the region. The police are working to uncover further details in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
