Chennai, 29 October (H.S.) : Coimbatore city police have arrested two men for a serious security breach that occurred on Tuesday ahead of the arrival of Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Town Hall.

The Vice-President was scheduled to garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi when the incident took place around 1 pm. The violation involved the two suspects riding a two-wheeler through a fully barricaded stretch designated for the VVIP's movement.

When police officers attempted to intercept the men, they managed to evade capture and sped down the road for approximately 200 meters before their vehicle collided with another two-wheeler near St. Michael’s Cathedral. The duo subsequently fled the scene on foot, prompting an immediate search operation by the city police to locate the offenders whose actions had gravely compromised established security protocols.

Following swift efforts, the police arrested Ashik (25), the rider of the vehicle, on Tuesday night. The pillion rider, H. Aneesh Rahman (26), was apprehended on Wednesday. Providing an official statement on the case, authorities confirmed that the preliminary investigations revealed the men were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the reckless breach.

Police further stated that the pillion rider, Aneesh Rahman, has a criminal history, having been previously booked for various offenses, including drug peddling, at different police stations across the city. The arrests ensure that strict legal action is taken against those who compromise the safety of high-ranking dignitaries.
