(HS): The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday has ordered to
clear the ongoing protest led by former MLA Omprakash alias Bachhu Kadu on
National Highway 44 on the outskirts of Nagpur on Nagpur-Wardha Road. The
protesters supporting loan waiver for farmers blocked the road causing great
inconvenience to the commuters, including ambulances and those approaching the National
Cancer Institute and AIIMS and other hospitals and educational institutions.
Based on the
media reports the High Court admitted a petition suo motu and directed the
police force to clear the road by Wednesday evening and submit the compliance
report on Thursday morning.
While the right
to protest peacefully is recognised, Kadu was allowed to stage protest march on
October 28 at specified place at Parsodi near the Cotton Research Centre. The
court also issued orders to take care of the disabled, women and children,
while clearing the blocked road. A long queue of about 20 km was reported. Any
damage to public property will invite stern action against Kadu and his
supporters, the court stated in its order. The protest continued beyond the
permitted period.
The court
adjourned the hearing till 11 am on October 30, the court issued notices to
Kadu, Police Commissioner, District Collector and other senior police officers
to file their reply by November 6.
