Guwahati, 28 October (HS): A body was recovered from the Lachit Ghat area of Guwahati on Tuesday morning. Police said the man is suspected to have drowned in the Brahmaputra River during Chhath Puja celebrations.

Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The deceased had reportedly come to Lachit Ghat to offer prayers during the festival.

As of reporting, the victim’s identity has not been established. Police have kept the body at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital mortuary for 72 hours to ascertain identification and have registered a case in connection with the incident.
