Four Flights to Chennai Cancelled as Cyclone Montha Nears Andhra Coast

Chennai, 28 October (H.S.) : Four flights traveling from Andhra Pradesh to Chennai were canceled on Tuesday as a precautionary measure due to the escalating threat posed by Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Montha'. Authorities at the Chennai airport have indicated that more cancellations or delays may follow later in the day, depending on the prevailing weather conditions.

The cancellations come in the wake of a warning from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which stated that Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, along the Andhra coast this evening or by night.

The affected inbound services to Chennai include flights from Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Rajahmundry. The canceled IndiGo services specifically include a flight from Visakhapatnam (9:45 am), another from Rajahmundry (1:35 pm), a Vijayawada–Chennai flight (1:40 pm), and a second Visakhapatnam–Chennai flight (1:45 pm).

Airport officials have also mentioned that flights originating from Chennai and heading to various destinations in Andhra Pradesh may face similar disruptions. In view of the cyclone and heavy rain warnings, airport authorities have strongly advised passengers to verify the updated departure and arrival schedules directly with their respective airlines or through official websites before proceeding to the airport.
