Delhi, 28 October (H.S.): An aircraft designated for Delhi’s first cloud-seeding trial took off from Kanpur on Tuesday and is expected to conduct the operation over northwest Delhi’s Burari area, an official said.

According to officials, the trial will proceed if weather conditions remain favourable, specifically adequate moisture levels and the presence of suitable clouds.

“The aircraft will directly carry out the trial over the northwest region near Burari and will then be stationed at the Meerut airport,” the official added.

In case the weather is not conducive for seeding, the plane will fly straight to Meerut and stay there until conditions become suitable.

The cloud-seeding initiative, aimed at inducing artificial rain, is part of the Delhi government’s larger strategy to combat rising air pollution levels during the winter season.
