
Mumbai, 24 Oct (HS):
The Cooperative Department of the Government of India will soon launch ‘Bharat
Taxi’ services to break the monopoly of private operators like Ola and Uber.
The Bharat Taxi will be introduced under the banner of Multi-State Cooperative
Taxi Limited, and the taxi drivers will be members of the Cooperative and not
employees.
The profit earned
will be shared directly with the drivers, so that their exploitation by private
operators is eliminated.
Initially, the
services will be started in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. It
will be extended in other state in a phased manner. ‘No Surge Pricing’ during
festive season policy has been accepted to prevent burden on the customers. An
initial capital of Rs 300 crore has been raised.
Eight prominent
cooperatives in the country have extended support to the proposal. The Managing
Director of Amul, Jayen Mehta has been appointed Chairman of the Bharat Taxi
Cooperative Society.
The services are
expected to be introduced by te end of this year.
