Delhi, 24 October (H.S.): The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Friday directed all its fee plazas to prominently display detailed information regarding the availability of concessional travel passes, a move aimed at enhancing transparency and awareness for highway users. The directive focuses on ensuring commuters are fully informed about the 'Local Monthly Pass' and the 'Annual Pass' facilities .

Under the new mandate, all NHAI-jurisdiction toll plazas must install signage boards with information on the availability, rates, and application procedures for these passes within 30 days. To maximize accessibility, this information will be presented in English, Hindi, and the respective regional language. The signages are to be placed at highly visible locations such as toll plaza approaches, customer service centers, and entry/exit points, with specifications to ensure clarity both day and night.

This information will also be disseminated digitally via the ‘Rajmargyatra’ mobile application and on the websites of corresponding NHAI projects. The initiative highlights two key economical options for frequent travelers:The Local Monthly Pass is designed for commuters with private vehicles who reside within a 20-kilometer radius (or as otherwise specified) of a particular fee plaza. This pass can be obtained at the plaza's helpdesk upon verification of documents like an Aadhar card, Vehicle Registration Certificate, and proof of address.

The Annual Pass, applicable only to private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans, offers a one-time payment option for extensive highway travel. For a fee of Rs. 3,000, the pass is valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first.

It can be purchased through the ‘Rajmargyatra’ app and is digitally activated on the vehicle's valid FASTag, covering approximately 1,150 fee plazas on National Highways and Expressways nationwide .NHAI stated that this directive underscores its commitment to improving the commuter experience by making highway travel more economical and elevating the standard of transparency in its tolling operations across the country .
