Delhi, 23 October (H.S.): Global markets are showing weak signals on Thursday, following a downturn in U.S. equities during the previous session. European markets closed with mixed results, while Asian markets are currently experiencing varied trading activity.

U.S. markets faced persistent pressure in the last trading session, causing Wall Street's major indices to close lower. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.53 percent to finish at 6,699.43, while the Nasdaq Composite declined by 0.93 percent, or 213.27 points, to end at 22,740.40. Indicating continued weakness, Dow Jones Futures were trading down by 0.06 percent at 46,560.89.

European markets demonstrated a divided performance. The FTSE index in London bucked the trend, closing with a gain of 0.92 percent, or 88.01 points, at 9,515. In contrast, the CAC index in Paris fell by 0.63 percent to 8,206.87, and Germany's DAX index dropped by 0.74 percent, or 178.90 points, to close at 24,151.13.

Trading in Asia on Thursday is a mixed bag, with five of the nine major markets trading in the red. Thailand’s stock exchange is closed for a holiday.Markets showing strength include India's GIFT Nifty, which was up 0.92 percent at 26,164. The Straits Times Index in Singapore posted a modest gain of 0.12 percent to 4,399.34, while the Jakarta Composite Index saw a significant jump of 1.14 percent to 8,245.41.

On the losing side, Japan's Nikkei index recorded a substantial fall of 1.40 percent, or 688.79 points, to 48,619. The Taiwan Weighted Index was down 0.46 percent, the Kospi in South Korea slipped by 0.64 percent, the Shanghai Composite Index fell by 0.66 percent, and the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong was trading down by 0.08 percent.
